    • East and West facing sites can be the best giving Morning or afternoon sun. Not too cold and not too hot

Glass Options

Glass can perform many different roles to make your home more comfortable, more secure, more private or more practical. In fact, glass is an attractive alternative to many other materials, such as wood, brick or polycarbonate - it's simply a case of knowing what to ask for.

Unlike say 10 years ago there are numerous types and combinations of glass but which is best for you. Your windows and conservatories from Kingfisher will be fitted with Pilkington Glass as standard to give quality insulation and solar control if required. The following are a sample of what we do but the full range can be found at the Pilkington website.

All our windows are A Rated and as standard incorporate the following:

  • Pilkington Optiwhite glass to the outer pane
  • Pilkington K Glass to the inner pane

Which together with Profile 22 extrusion, argon filled units and Edgetech warm edge spacer give our windows an A rating.

Other Options

  • Self cleaning
We always use Pilkington Activ in our conservatory glass roofs, elsewhere is optional.

  • Noise Control

    • Pilkington Optiphon™ is the ideal choice of glass for sound control in situations where there is excess noise from roads, rail, air traffic and other sources.  Using a PVB (polyvinyl butyral) specific interlayer, Pilkington Optiphon™ is a high quality acoustic laminated glass that offers excellent noise reduction.
    • Pilkington Optilam™ is produced by combining two or more sheets of glass with PVB interlayers, and it is this lamination that enables it to offer impact protection and safety.  By varying the number of layers and thickness of the glass, it can offer wide-ranging benefits and be used in various applications.
  • Solar Control

There are many solar control glasses. At Kingfisher we find Activ Blue to be the best solution in conservatories
This attractive blue glass combines dual-action, self-cleaning properties with solar control performance for a cooler internal environment. Pilkington Activ™ Blue is a revolutionary glass that is perfect for use in conservatories.

It uses daylight and rainwater to breakdown and wash away organic dirt from exterior surfaces, making it ideal for hard to reach places that are difficult to clean. Its unique blue colour also helps keep internal temperatures cool whilst still maintaining excellent light transmittance.

For optimum self-cleaning and thermal performance, combine Pilkington Activ™ Blue with Pilkington K Glass™ or Pilkington Optitherm™ S4 in an Insulating Glass Unit.
