Hands Up If You're Against Bullying
Following the incredible success of our 2006 Hands Up If You’re Against Bullying campaign, we were contacted by a number of organisations, charities and customers who were eager to find out how the campaign would develop. To meet this demand we worked closely with John Stead, regional Anti-Bullying Alliance coordinator and NSPCC education advisor, to create an online version of the campaign for 2007 and 2008. Launched in association with several major national children charities and a raft of stars and personalities, the Hands Up website invited visitors to design their own ‘virtual handprint’ using an online art palette and interactive hand. The resulting masterpiece could then be added to an online gallery, allowing children, adults and celebrities to make a truly individual contribution to our stand against bullying – in effect, creating a huge national ‘show of hands’. ChildLine and Kidscape kindly contributed school resources and anti-bullying lesson for the dedicated ‘teachers’ section, while children could access advice from Anti-Bullying Alliance experts. Some of the nation’s favourite celebrities were among the first to register their handprints, including campaign ambassadors Kym Ryder, who took part in our 2006 Hands Up campaign, and Amarillo star Tony Christie, along with Steven Gerrard, David Blunkett, Dick and Dom, Darren Gough and stars from Hollyoaks.
