The Official Anti-Bullying Week
Following our successful Bullying Stops Here schools competition, we were invited to support the 2006 Official Anti-Bullying Week, backed by the NSPCC, ChildLine and the Anti-Bullying Alliance. With the issue of bullying so close to our heart, we set about creating a number of initiatives to help the cause:
• We donated £5000 to sponsor the Kirkless National Anti-Bullying Conference The Hands Up If You’re Against Bullying campaign invited celebrities, children and adults to make their multi-coloured paint handprints on a huge pane of glass in order to register their stance against bullying. We had an overwhelming response – our initiative found strong support from celebrities across the North, including the cast of Coronation Street, Heartbeat and Emmerdale and members of Leeds Rhinos and Yorkshire County Cricket Club teams. We also gathered more than 500 handprints from children and adults during the Official Anti-Bullying Week itself, and received national acclaim for our anti-bullying work. |
