Kingfisher Windows was appointed to supply and install over 800 Secure by Design, fully reversible windows on behalf of Oldham City Council as part of a large PFI (Private Finance Initiative) housing scheme involving two 15-storey tower blocks. This project focused on modernising high-rise residential buildings with products that combine safety, functionality and long-term performance.
The fully reversible window design is particularly suited to tall buildings because each unit can be rotated 180°, allowing safe and easy cleaning from inside the apartments without compromising security or occupant safety. This is especially valuable in high-rise contexts where external access is difficult. These windows also contribute to improved ventilation and occupant comfort.
All units installed met Secure by Design standards, a police-backed accreditation that ensures high levels of physical security and resistance to forced entry — a key consideration in social housing projects.
The scale of the installation — with hundreds of units across two tall blocks — demonstrates Kingfisher’s capability in delivering large-scale commercial residential glazing solutions that meet both performance and regulatory requirements for safety, access and maintenance.
