Woldgate School & Sixth Form College Commercial Project, Pocklington

The Project

Kingfisher Windows worked on this project at Woldgate School and Sixth Form College in Pocklington near York. In May 2017, Woldgate School secured £1.3 million from the Department of Education to improve the school buildings. The funds were to cover work including the removal and replacement of external walls not of brick construction, as well as windows and doors.

We were picked by the school to carry out the installation, fitting the Profile 22 Optima Casement Window and doors into the school. We made sure to design the windows to meet the high-standards this project demanded.

Speaking on the completion of the project, Woldgate School headteacher Jonathan Britton said: “We are confident following this initial work that we will secure additional funding to continue this programme of investment and ensure our school has the very best facilities within our locality.”

Work began in May Half-Term 2017 and was completed by the start of the Autumn term 2017.

The Windows Used

For the Woldgate School project, we installed the Optima System Casement Window from Profile 22. The flexible design of this window provided the ideal commercial solution, with the customisable colour meaning we could get a consistent look across the whole building. These windows will provide excellent soundproofing to keep the loud noises of the school inside.

Thermally Efficient

The teachers and children in this school won’t have to worry about feeling cold during the winter term. These windows boast a U-value of 1.2 W/m2K as standard, which can be improved further through triple glazing to give values as low as 0.8. This window also achieves a BS7412 weather performance, so they won’t have to worry about cold draughts compromising the comfort of the school.

The soft-coat low-emissivity glass, warm edge spacer and argon gas will help to keep this school warmer for longer. The windows will act as a barrier to the heat, trapping it inside. This will keep the home naturally warmer year-round, even in the coldest of winters, reducing the need for central heating. In the long-term, not only will this save the school money on energy bills, but reduce the building’s carbon footprint.

The school won’t have to worry about the general security of the building is at risk through these windows. The frame of the window is durable, making it hard for potential burglars to break in through them. The window itself has been internally glazed so the glass cannot be taken from the outside. Finally, these windows achieve PAS24 20216 Enhanced Security standards and come with optional Secured by Design accessories, so you can fully secure your home.
