Drighlingon based manufacturer, Kingfisher uPVC Windows and Doors Ltd has recently completed a £91,000 refurbishment of an adults with learning and disabilities day care centre in Leeds. The project that included the removal and replacement of more than 47 windows and 15 door and door sets as well as curtain walling, was carried out using the Senior Aluminium System powder coated in a moderate, light grey. The building was first constructed in the late 90’s and was a joint project between the Meanwood Park Hospital and Leeds City Council. Its purpose was to enable the NHS to cease the industrial therapy provided for adults with learning disabilities that, up until then, had been catered for by the Hospital. The building is currently occupied by Aspire CBS who continue to provide the care and support on behalf of the Council, offering a facility much needed by adults with learning disabilities so they can participate in healthy, safe and fulfilling daytime activities. The Planning for the refurbishment works commenced at the start of 2016 with working starting on site in the April. The whole project included repairs to the roof, replacement of rainwater goods and the installation of a new CCTV security system in addition to the replacement of the windows and doors carried out by Kingfisher. Internally the building was fully rewired, fully redecorated and new carpet and vinyl laid along with the installation of wifi throughout the building. Tracking hoists were also installed in the new changing place toilets and sensory room, along with the reconfiguration of existing hoists, and new furniture was provided throughout the building. Neil Webster, Managing Director of Kingfisher Windows, said: “As a business, winning any major contract is pleasing and says a lot about Kingfisher Windows as a recognised supplier and installer of key commercial products. “However, when it is for a project such as this where you can see the added benefits such a facility can provide within your own local community, it makes the job that little bit more special,” he added. These were the first major refurbishment works to be carried out at the centre since the building was first constructed more than 25 years ago.
